Did Princess Felipa of Bavaria copy Duchess Kate?

    Reuters file, EPA

Strikingly similiar? Duchess Kate waving at the wedding of the decade; Princess Felipa of Bavaria, at her less publicized May 12 wedding in Germany.

    By Rina Raphael

It’s been a year since Duchess Kate launched many a bridal trend with her elegant, Sarah Burton-designed gown. Since then, there have been numerous knockoffs and homages — including now, it seems, Princess Felipa of Bavaria.

The lesser known Bavarian princess, daughter of Prince Leopold and Princess Ursula, married a commoner (another big royal trend!), film producer Christian Dienst, on Saturday in Steingaden, Germany. Felipa, 31, wore a sparkly tiara and a modest, long-sleeve lace gown — created by Munich designer Natascha Müllerschön — that looks rather similar to Kate’s, no?

Someone made a funny: Pastor Monsignore Kirchmeier greets the bride, Princess Felipa of Bavaria, and her father, Prince Leopold of Bavaria, prior to the marriage ceremony.

Princess Felipa of Bavaria and Christian Dienst smile after the marriage ceremony. About 500 guests reportedly attended (smaller than a U.K. royal wedding, but still a lot of fascinators in attendance).

Oh for pity's sake (article writer, not my esteemed co-commenters). There have been lace covered bodices and lace sleeves on wedding dresses since time began. Ok. I have no proof of that. But at LEAST since the 50's. It would be sad if no one else could wear them now that Kate has worn one. Sad inde …

Alec Baldwin's fiance shows off her stunning engagement ring

    Splash News

Alec Baldwin's fiancee Hilaria Thomas was spotted wearing her engagement ring around New York City on Apr. 2.

Lucky lady: Not only did Hilaria Thomas, 28, snag funnyman Alec Baldwin, 53, but also quite some bling.

The newly-engaged yoga studio owner and instructor was spotted walking around New York City on Monday with a gorgeous stunner, featuring a sizable square-cut diamond.

This will be the first marriage for Thomas and the second for Baldwin, who divorced actress Kim Basinger in 2002. Alec is constantly tweeting his appreciation for Thomas on Twitter, so their upcoming nuptials comes as no surprise.

"Alec proposed to Hilaria this weekend and we're all excited for the newly engaged couple," the "30 Rock" star's rep confirmed to E! News. "Alec's birthday is [today] — great way to celebrate!"

Should Kim Kardashian give back her engagement ring?

    EPA, Getty Images

Bling it on! Kim Kardashian flaunted her engagement ring from Kris Humphries in their first public appearance as an engaged couple on May 27, 2011.

    By Rina Raphael

If your marriage lasts 72 days, are you required to return the engagement ring?

It's a heated debate on the interwebs, with reality-TV addicts debating whether Kim Kardashian ought to return the ridiculously large, $2 million diamond ring she received from now-ex-husband Kris Humphries.

TMZ reports that Kim's pre-nup included a clause that requires her to buy the ring back from Kris for its original price if the two divorce. However, Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, thinks the ring should stay with its rightful Kardashian owner.

"A gift is a gift," Kris said last Thursday on "Fox and Friends." "If you look at the etiquette books, it says keep a present." Yet according to etiquette expert Harriette Cole, traditional protocol is to return the ring if the union has lasted less than a year (particularly if it is the groom's family heirloom).

Kim is currently in Minnesota, reportedly trying to smooth things over with Kris. No news yet on what she intends to do with the ring, but perhaps she has a plan? Maybe she'll donate it to the state of Minnesota as a peace offering, as she always seemed to pooh-pooh the idea of ever moving there with Kris.

Stella McCartney gets inspiration from a royal gown

    EPA, Getty Images

Sir Paul McCartney (R) and his wife Nancy Shevell (L), in London Sunday. At right, the Duke of Windsor and American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

    By Amy DiLuna

Designer Stella McCartney, whose clothes are some of the hottest in Hollywood, created the gown that American Nancy Shevell, 51, wore to marry Sir Paul, 69, on Sunday.

Stella's inspiration, for her new step-mom's dress? Wallis Simpson, wedding guest Barbara Walters revealed. Simpson's famous floor-length wedding gown was donated to the Metropolitan Museum of art in 1950. An American and a divorcee, Simpson stirred up scandal when she married another big-deal Brit, the Duke of Windsor, in 1937. The shade of her gown, a light blue that was such a signature of her style that it's been called "Wallis blue," was one of her favorites because it complemented her eyes, according to popular folklore.

The Stella version of the dress, worn by businesswoman Nancy in London, has a pleated bodice and empire waist, and falls just above the knee. It shows bit more skin at the plunging neckline than Wallis's did.

High-profile wedding gowns have been known to spark worldwide trends, so expect more Wallis-inspired wedding wear in the future.

The Kardashian wedding reception photos you didn't see

    By Rina Raphael

You've probably heard enough about Kim Kardashian's indulgent wedding, but have you seen enough?

(Rhetorical question! There's no such thing!)

Brand new photos were just released of the star-studded nuptials — which included guests such as Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne and Eva Longoria — and boy, are they amusing. Unlike the posed, traditional photos the Kardashian clan offered to the press two weeks ago, these images show celebrities gettin' down: dancing, cutting sky-high cakes and cleaning up the floor with their Vera Wang gowns.

Take a look at the Kardashians' fun wedding party style:

We don't even know what's going on here. But it seems like mother-of-the-bride Kris Jenner is lulling the Kardashian bridesmaids to sleep? Feel free to add your own caption in the comments section below!

Was Pippa's green dress a wedding fashion faux pas?

    Rex USA

Did Pippa wear the wrong color for a pal's wedding in England?

    By Rina Raphael

Did Pippa Middleton commit a fashion faux pas? Or are critics just green with envy?

The famous younger sister, 27, wore a flowing green frock and a black feather fascinator while attending a university-friend’s wedding this weekend. What could possibly be the problem? According to U.K. Daily Mail, green is a color traditionally avoided at nuptials since it’s considered bad luck for the couple.

“Ignoring the old adage ‘weddings and green should never be seen’ was not Pippa’s only fashion fault,” wrote Daily Mail writer Charlotte Griffiths. “She also wore cross-strapped suede high-heels — and the aristocratic set consider heels unsightly at weddings. Only kitten-heeled shoes are deemed acceptable in the country.”

A little harsh? At least she didn’t wear white (unlike her last big wedding debut).  Pippa fans came out in force yesterday, defending the derriere-star’s wardrobe choices.

Manolo Blahnik exposes Kate Moss' bridezilla moment

    AP; Barneys

British model Kate Moss and British guitarist Jamie Hince at their wedding in Southrop, England, Friday, July 1, 2011; Manolo Blahnik Godichefac sandals.

    By Rina Raphael

Only Kate Moss could make the bridezilla syndrome seem... fashionable?

The newlywed supermodel recently admitted to Vogue that she got a little carried away planning her July 1 nuptials to rocker Jamie Hince. And now, legendary footwear designer Manolo Blahnik – who designed the bride’s high, crystal-studded heels – has revealed just how far Moss went.

Blahnik says his staff worked all night long to perfect Moss’ customized "Godichefac" wedding-day sandals, which cost a cool $895 at Barneys.

“We did them five times to get them the way she wanted,” Blahnik said in an interview with WWD. “The shoes arrived the day before, and there were too many jewels on the heel because of the long train, so we had women working up until midnight to change it.”

But don’t worry – the veteran designer has only warm, fuzzy feelings for the British beauty and her decadent, Gatsbyesque ceremony, which he attended. “The wedding was divine. Kate has such a presence. You just have to feel it,” he said.

Of course, Kate isn’t the only model to throw a footwear tantrum. Just last week, fellow supermodel Gisele Bundchen put her foot down by refusing to wear high heels on the runway. Supermodels, the sole humans who can get away with such shoe fits.

Kate Moss' Gatsby-esque wedding - revealed!

    Mario Testino / Vogue

Newlywed Kate Moss graces the September issue of Vogue magazine.

She’s one of fashion’s biggest icons, so it’s only fitting her wedding received a full Vogue spread.

Acclaimed photographer Mario Testino shot newlywed Kate Moss, 37 – who married rocker Jamie Hince, 42, last month in an English church – for a series of portraits that are as envy-inducing as they are romantic. The British model is seen embracing her groom in an idyllic forest setting, casually posing with her army of young bridesmaids (including her own 8-year-old daughter), and gazing at her beloved in the back of a luxury car.

“I've had big birthday parties, and I've thrown parties for other people, but this is a completely different thing,” Moss told Vogue of her wedding, which had a 1920s “Great Gatsby” feel. “Because you have to look at every piece of cutlery; the details are intense. And then you wake up thinking about the ballet shoes for the girls; is the satin ribbon right? I've gone mental. Jamie thinks I'm mad, asking, 'Are you gonna be all right? After the wedding, I'm hoping you'll get back to normal!' "

For her dress, Moss didn’t disappoint: She chose "a classic [John] Galliano, those chiffon 30s kind” that embodied her love of couture dresses.

They discussed everything on the phone, and then, when John was out of rehab for the first of four marathon fittings, he brought her “bags full of bits, and pulled tulle and sequins and veils and flowers out. And then we just kind of pinned things together, like the old days, you know?”

Take a look at a snippet from Kate’s wedding album.

    Mario Testino / Vogue

After a romantic trip to Thailand with Jamie Hince, Kate recalls, "we were just so loved up, and he asked me to marry him every day."

    Mario Testino / Vogue

"I wanted [the wedding] to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus,” Moss said.

    Mario Testino / Vogue

Kate had sixteen bridesmaids and flower girls, ages two to fourteen.

Moss poses with her daughter, Lila Grace. During the wedding, Kate says her daughter asked "Mummy, are you stressed?"

Kim Kardashian chooses a wedding dress designer

Kim Kardashian will wear a Vera Wang-designed wedding gown when she marries Kris Humphries on Aug. 20.

    By Amy DiLuna

And it's an old friend of the family.

Celebrity fave Vera Wang will be designing the bombshell's gown.

"Vera has been a close family friend for a long time and we had talked about this moment for years," Kardashian wrote on her blog. She'll wed basketball player Kris Humphries on Aug. 20. "So when it came to picking my wedding dress designer, she was the first person I thought of. No one designs gowns the way she does!"

Wang is maybe the most famous of all celebrity wedding dress designers, having recently outfitted Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton (and Kim's sister, Khloe, for her 2009 wedding to Lamar Odom).

Wang's known for classic designs that incorporate modern touches, and there's no doubt Kim will make hers extra glam. Back in June, E! revealed some of the items on her registry, which include $840 ashtrays and four $880 serving spoons.

For her part, Wang is thrilled. "What a glorious moment!" she told E! News. "I am so thrilled to be dressing Kim for her wedding to Kris Humphries!"

30 years later, Diana's wedding (and that dress) still captivate

Diana enters her wedding ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral in her famous dress, designed by David Emanuel.

Before Will and Kate's royal wedding extravaganza captured the attention of the world, a real Princess bride -- Princess Diana -- wed Prince Charles in the event of a lifetime.

It was 30 years ago today that Prince Charles wed Lady Diana. In the beginning, the story played out in much the same way as Will and Kate's would, decades later: An engagement portrait in which Diana flashed a sapphire and diamond ring, spectators camped out to catch a glimpse of the royal procession, a bride in an elaborately crafted gown, saying her vows in a massive church (Diana, like Kate, refused to say she'd "obey"), and a balcony kiss.

Wedding fans in their '80s finery wait to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds.

The fairy tale eventually ended in a break-up and then a tragedy, but millions around the globe will never forget watching that wedding -- and that dress.

Would you wear a bridal bikini?

    By Brooke Lea Foster

    Frazer Harrison / Getty Images

After wearing the dress of your dreams on your wedding day, isn’t a girl entitled to the bikini of her dreams for her honeymoon?

    Frazer Harrison / Getty Images

Brides often say it all went by in a flash, after all. Why not stretch out the wedding-wear to the honeymoon? Designer Angela Chittenden thinks this is a great idea. So much so that her swimsuit brand, Beach Bunny Swimwear, debuted Beach Bunny Bride, the first-ever bridal bathing suit line, at Fashion Week Swim 2012 in Miami this week.
Few others thought it was a necessary niche to fill in the market, most likely.

Sure, a one- and two-piece adorned with hand-beaded pearls, Chantilly lace, and Swarovski crystals is a little, you know, over-the-top (not to mention really hard to swim in. At least it's not made of shards of glass). But maybe Chittenden is on to something.

Assuming these suits are intended for the honeymoon (though more awkward things have happened at weddings), women might enjoy letting everyone at the resort know she's just-married (free Champagne, this way!).

Trendsetting royal? Duchess Kate wore a romantic lace veil at her April 29 nuptials.

    By Brooke Foster

Is the Duchess lifting the veil on timeless traditions?

If you went to a wedding in the last decade, chances are the bride wore a strapless gown and her hair pulled back in an updo. But Kate changed all of that when she married Prince William on April 29.

Instead of a strapless style, women are suddenly more drawn to ladylike silhouettes — like the one Sarah Burton designed for Ms. Middleton — according to new research by Brides magazine. Dan Rentillo, fashion director for David’s Bridal, told Brides that similar lacy dresses are flying off the shelves. “Women have really responded to the coverage,” says Rentillo. “They’re asking for ladylike gowns with clean, simple lines.”

American women have also shown an interest in veils, with 52 percent of women saying that they’re more likely to wear the romantic head covering because of Kate. The tiara, what Brides calls “the ultimate princess accessory,” is also back; Lindsie Jones Haute chic line of tiaras are nearly sold out.

As for the royal treatment? There’s been a 200 percent increase in the interest in horse and carriage rentals at Nolan’s Horse-Drawn Carriages in San Luis Obispo in California. Many brides are requesting dainty lily of the valley flowers in their bouquets; Kate’s had lily of the valley, sweet williams, hyacinth and myrtle. Since Middleton’s ring is the sapphire engagement ring worn by Prince William’s late mother Princess Diana, there’s been an uptick in heirloom rings among the newly engaged. Also, JCPenney reports that sales of sapphire jewelry have increased overall since Prince William proposed.

And not surprisingly, there’s been an interest among brides to leave their hair long and loose. Celebrity hairstylist Rodney Cutler told Brides: “Many brides want to wear their hair down but get an updo because they think they have to. Kate has given the women freedom to be themselves.”
