Model behavior? Gisele criticized for post-Super Bowl comments

Sweet embrace: Tom Brady is comforted by his wife Gisele Bundchen after losing to the New York Giants by a score of 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Updated 11:50 a.m EST 2/7/2012

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady felt the sting of a Super Bowl loss, and got a hug from a supermodel, but should his famous spouse have left it at that and kept her editorializing to herself?

Following the New England Patriots' defeat by the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLVI last night, Gisele Bundchen embraced Brady, backstage before a sea of photographers. The Brazilian beauty was effortlessly clad in a chic motorcycle jacket, black-and-white print scarf and a quilted Chanel handbag while embracing the visibly upset QB in what actually seems like a tender moment between mega-celebrities.

Gisele certainly has her man's back: Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that Gisele emailed friends and family, kindly requesting they send "positive energy" and pray so that Brady "can feel confident, healthy and strong." (Unanswered prayers? Celebs, they're just like us!) Then, following the game, Gisele responded to taunters ("Eli owns your husband!") by placing blame on his teammates, shouting "My husband cannot ******* throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time ... I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times.”

While it would seem like a valiant attempt to stand up for her husband, many criticized Bundchen for what they deemed trash talk. "If you have a problem, you deal with it. You deal with it in the locker room, you deal with it with your coach and your teammates" said WNBC sportscaster Bruce Beck on TODAY Tuesday. "There's a code amongst players and amongst teams that you keep it in house."

Other outlets were less than kind to Gisele's words, sparking a debate online on whether spouses of professional athletes should ever meddle in affairs. According to TMZ, inside sources said Brady's teammates felt "betrayed" and "disappointed" by Gisele airing her grievances, and worse, that it was like "knocking someone when they are down."

Do you agree? Should Gisele have refrained from expressing her opinions?

. . . effortlessly clad? WTF, are we supposed to be impressed that the queen was just lazy and wore a big wheels jacket and a boa scarf?

No surprise here. There are women who, via the genetic crap shoot, are able to make a great deal of money without intelligence, class, and just plain good manners.

Tom Brady is not the only sports figure married to or involved with one of them.

She just let her emotions as a wife get the best of her. We've all said things in the heat of the moment and 1 second later realized that we shouldn't have said anything.

I'm enjoying it. Karma. For always getting too away with everything (uh, tucking 2001? really? that's a fumble, or spygate, or take your pick). System QB. He would not be good without the system he plays in. (Remember, Matt Cassel took Brady's team and went 11-5. So, basically Brady is good for about 2 wins. I can think of another team that went 2-14 without their QB, as oppposed to their standard 12-4 to 14-2 range. So he's worth 10 wins minimum).

Wow, do you realize how big a moron you sound like?

Pro sports like anything else is a business... it's a part of the entertainment industry. It's an industry with a relatively few major assets that bring in a great deal of money. These "clowns" as you put it... are making the appropriate salary given their role in providing the good and services their business sells. You can refuse all you want... that's fine. I don't eat fast food... What industry do you work in... are you a "clown" to?

    Pilot,

Do you go to movies to support the actresses who make $10 million per film? How about college football with teams making $20 million for a bowl game?

      #2.2 - Mon Feb 6, 2012 8:08 PM EST

When they make a film they are actually producing something. It is something that can be enjoyed over and over for generations to come. It makes money in 10 different ways, through different markets, dvds, blue ray, merchendising. A game produces 2 hours of entertainment and it is over. Thats it. Period. You are comparing apples and oranges Road Warrior. I am not saying that they don't deserve the cash, I am just saying your comparison won't hold water.

Well I guess it's how you look at it because sports also produces revenue through different markets. Jerseys, hats, collectables, etc are bought and sold beyond the game. But one thing you either omit or don't understand about sports leagues as entertainment: the value is cummulative and doesn't end in "2 hours" (most football games are 3 hours, by the way). A sports event does not happen in a vacuum and each team's win is another team's loss and by season's end, a team's championship and a team's legacy (ask a Steelers, Lakers or Yankee's fan about legacy). Those elements are what allow for there to be 365-day per year coverage of a sport that has a 6-month season. The NFL, MLB, and NBA will generate revenue during their offseasons.

So while you may not enjoy it or understand it, Magi Doug, the value of a sports league and franchise lasts well beyond a "2-hour" game and fuels an industry beyond what occurs between whistles.

So Pilot, you don not support it and don't want any part of this organization, yet you show up on a blog to say absolutely nothing contributing to the article. Hmmmmm

I think it's one thing for Gissele to support her husband, but when there are cameras and mics everywhere one must be careful in what they sprew. It did not show her in good light and was offensive to the entire team. JMO.

Help me to understand, if you don't follow pro-sports, why would you leave a post? As far as athletes making too much money, genius, have you ever rehabbed a torn acl? Do you know what it is like to be away from your family for most of 6 months?

          #2.6 - Tue Feb 7, 2012 12:27 PM EST

What about the high school athletes that see the pros and focus on them, because they have no other hope, and win college scholerships? Then they move on to be pro athletes, too? Sometimes, sports are their only hope.

As for Tom's wife, I do not agree with what she said about the teammates. That was just wrong. But defending your man is okay--just do in without disrespect to others. I'm guessing she got caught up.

I am glad to see that public display of affection. Too many "power couples" are pulled apart by their fame and the travel and appearance requirements each must fulfill. I wish Gisele and Tom Brady and Miranda and Blake Shelton all the best: may their love last like the love between Faith and Tim McGraw.

Hey, Jay Leno, how about bringing on these couples each as a couple?

Goat Rancher, it certainly is appreciated when the QB and his wife look like Titanic survivors. Those pathetic expressions are classic. If Tom Brady was any kind of real' Man", he would have not allowed those pics to be taken. He ought to go home and tell Gisele, "Listen Hon, I can humiliate myself, I don't need your dumb ass sending emails requesting for prayers and I certainly don't need you kickin' my team mates while they are down."

This is all so ridiculous. Who would want every aspect of your life and relationships questioned and inspected? Between this and some "friend" leaking personal e-mails, everyone has been dogging them. The Today show actually made an issue of her "drinking red wine" at the game because everryone knows they only drink beer in Boston and they must hate her for that. ???? Why doesn't anyone question why she was being harassed in the first place? Some big man that didn't have the b_lls to go harass the players themselves but their wives. I just wish she had the thought to go look him in the eye and put him in his place. The rest: "how they look" "what they said to each other" etc is all nonsense. Leave the people alone.

It's one thing to support your husband. It's another to publically attack his team mates for what this model and self-annoited football expert deems Patriot players' screw-ups. Her public tirade made Brady look weak and ineffective. How embarrassing for him and the entire Patriots' organization. Her notoriety gives her a bully pulpit others' don't have and most likely would have used more appropriately.

Gisele's language shows her total lack of class. Bad enough she had to steal another woman's man, but then she actually talks like trash. Shows me my initial thoughts about her are 100% right on. I'll pray for more worthy causes than putting money in her pocket. And quit blaming the other players, Wes Welker in particular. Your "Tommy" actually has to share part of the blame.

If Tom Brady had played his career with the Buffalo Bills, he would have retired 5 years ago. He's a beneficiary of a great system run by a great coach. Heck, I could complete those 6 yard passes with the protection he has always benefitted from.

+1 from a fellow Nashvillian, Brady could pitch a tent, build a campfire, roast some marshmallows, get up, stretch, angle his throw with a sextant, and release it in the time his OL gives him. The Pats' OL would make JaMarcus Russell look like Dan Marino.

I can't believe professional analysts don't see that and throw Brady's name in with Manning's.

so you people have no issue with fans openly taunting this man's wife, yet you condemn her for language? She's got her husband's back. I would do that for my wife and she'd do the same for me. She is fighting fire with fire. She knows how Tom feels after a loss like this and she is angry that the fans couldn't just enjoy their victory, they only feel good when they can rub someone's nose in it. They aren't content to just celebrate, they need to be seen by the opposing fans celebrating. When I played hockey, our coach always stressed poise and sportsmanship. WE would never know when the skates would be on the other feet. Sadly, this is no longer a sentiment.

                  It's a sad statement generally

in America that we believe ONLY the winners

                  actually are the victors...

Every person involved with this Sport knows

what type of dedication it takes to be a Pro Athelete..

Instead of celebrating the "whole game"

those who won and those who lost

Let the warriors heal, they have battled well

maybe in the next year's end, this will be replayed

                  but even if it isn't..

game on for those who still can play this sport

with the drive and passion of all the teams working

to put together a winning strategy --

NY Giants played the same "end game" they

did before with one major oops,

that ended up being a "win"

the rusher fell INTO the end zone

                  instead of stopping the clock..

As for Gisele's comments, I thank you for

having the passion to be beside your loved one--

as soppy as that seems to an American

I rather enjoyed watching the "supporting wife"

after the game take on the fans who were

                  really sore winners...

Claim your victory but don't do the dance

in front of the defeated... it's "poor sportsmanship"

you don't need to do this..

you already won the game... eh?

Thank you BOTH Tom Brady AND Eli Manning

you held your teams together with your skills and

                  perseverance..

Gisele at least stands up for what she believes in

that's what a loving wife does

in case we have forgotten this in America

                  she's got Tom's backside... covered

Beyond this, Tom B. earned his right to be

in the Super Bowl.... more than I can for a

lot of people writing notes here...

it's a lot of years of work and struggle..

Like Tom B., Gisele is NOT the quitter

that will simply sit down and call it over

                  after ONE failed attempt..

game on Gisele... show these yanks what

type of Espirita e Coracao uma Brasileida has to offer !!

It takes a team to win a game - and a team to lose a game. Tom Brady's wife had no business whining about other Patriot players. One team wins - one team loses - such is life - that's how it goes - so get over it Gisele! It isn't like you will be poverty stricken by this loss. One more thing Gisele - do something with your stringy hair.

Eli didn't win the game alone, he has a team. The game could have gone either way. It was so close. I am not a Brady fan at all, but I don't agree with the taunting and disrespectful display towards her and Brady. I'm sure they'll be back.

It's a respect issue and not many people have it anymore. No one is perfect but the people who support this type of display are people who would react this way as well. It wasn't fair to the team.

...and if you have a comment, leave it, but don't call others idiots for having their own thoughts. It shows what kind of an idiot you are. A sore loser, like Gisele.

You should never interfere with your spouse's work. It gives you a bad reputation and automatically puts a bad light on your spouse. I don't care who you are.

What she said was rude. It doesn't matter if she was standing by her man. You can stand by your man and not get his entire team pissed at the same time. If that is the way you react to things, this is the reaction you get.
