See the dress Ralph Lauren designed for his daughter-in-law's wedding

Norman Jean Roy / VOGUE

Lauren Bush Lauren and David Lauren posed for this formal wedding portrait for Vogue a month after their Labor Day nuptials, after returning from an Italian honeymoon.

Here are some wedding photos that were worth the wait.

Lauren Bush, granddaughter of President George H.W. Bush, married David Lauren, the son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren back in September on his family's sprawling Colorado ranch.

When it came to her wedding gown, her choice of designer was certainly no secret. But no photos emerged of the Ralph Lauren-designed dress — until now. The wedding, and the gown, is featured in in Vogue's December issue.

In the article, Lauren Bush Lauren ('No hyphen,' she told People.com) detailed the process of creating the gown with her future father-in-law. After several casual conversations at family gatherings, the former model went to the Ralph Lauren studio for a more formal meeting in June.

“I walked in, and there were these beautiful illustrations of the looks we’d discussed with my face on them,” she told Vogue's William Norwich. “It was like a dream come true. We sat together and arrived at this silhouette. It isn’t Victorian exactly. I wanted something modern as well, so there is the high-necked collar and puffed shoulders with the large open back.”

The result was somewhat reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s modest wedding dress, with long, sheer tulle sleeves, covered in embroidery, layered on a strapless gown. It took about 100 people more than 3,000 hours to embroider the tulle with ivory silk and metallic thread, Swarovski Elements crystals, and off-white pearl beads.

An old-style Western theme ran through the couple’s wedding, right down to the cowboy boots that Bush wore under her gown. Looking like he stepped off the movie screen, the groom wore a Ralph Lauren coat and vest with pocket chains.

Despite their families’ iconic status, these two city-slickers who live in New York, kept the guest list to a modest 200, riding off after the ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage, and then celebrating their nuptials in a 200-year-old barn.

The Labor Day wedding took place on the 17,000-acre Double RL ranch in Ridgway, Colorado.

I don't wish them anything. They don't even know or care that I exist.

The dress is exquisite but she looks like she has a toothache coming on. I don't know either one from Adam, but he's definitely worth a second look. Didn't know Ralph Lauren had a son.

Wow! A story about a wedding dress and the second comment is about OWS! Give it a rest, this isn't a political forum.

Hoodie they made is political due to her being a Bush. Also, all that money when to pay for caterers, wait staff, etc. So the 1% does create jobs, just not government wasteful spending jobs!

This gown is much more gorgeous than Middleton's! Love it, love it, love it! Kate's was just okay by comparison.

Beautiful dress! Kate Middleton's was pretty too, but looked too much like Grace Kelly's wedding gown.

I am with you Dick. Those occupy Wall Street people are all lowlife losers that nobody would want to hire. Explaining their presence at the protests day after day after day. It gives them something to do besides sit on their lazy butts all day. Besides the REAL 99% are out working and trying to make a living.

But I must say that this dress is very lovely and classy.....

You dont, and never will, get it because you dont care about anyone or anything but yourself...you are too dim to see past the end of your own nose...but the dress is nice for sure.

Call me old fashioned, but it's nice to see sleeves on a wedding dress again. Sleeveless wedding dresses everywhere you look is getting old. Beautiful dress and handsome couple.

Without a doubt, this photo surpasses Kate and Willliam. The beauty is stunning. And the low key wedding in our economy is just right. Shows what class they have.

      Wish them the best

Really dramatic, beautiful looking. I, too, am glad the dress isn't strapless - that style is so ubiquitous and boring.

Don't feel guilty in lauding the new Mrs. Lauren. She is NOT a typical Bush and is in fact a social reformer who co-founded the "feedbag" handbag line which has made millions to help poor women in Africa feed their children and put them to work. She exemplifies the liberal persona at its best.

Kimmiecat, I think that is exactly what they were going for.. his clothes are throwbacks as is her dress.. it was at a historic ranch so yeah, I would take that as a compliment of the highest fashion....

I don't usually get impressed with this stuff.. too much fluff but this one is nice.. this is not an over the top, pretentious, spendy, and wasteful wedding bash. Good for them and blessing of a lifetime..

I don't like the high turtle neck part of the dress, I would have liked a sweetheart neckline, but otherwise, it's a pretty dress.

Coffedrinker - the world has been filled with tragedy since the beginning of time, and there will no doubt always be sadness. But that doesn't mean people don't want to see happiness too...and beautiful, lovely things. Focusing on gloom and doom all the time isn't helpful.

There are many sides of life, and it's ok to experience them all.

I just love it!!! Design is so simple yet so very elegant.Truly less is more. They certainly show plenty of class. People of this group to only have 200 guests is really amazing. If they were to satisfy everyone on both sides that felt they should be included this wedding could have run 750 guests and up. Just shows what level headed, down to earth youngsters they are. I'm sure their parents are very proud of them. Grandparents too. I wish them many years of happiness, a wonderful family, and many years to "grow old together".
